Getting into dental school is difficult, and has only become more competitive each year. Temple Dental School Admission Statistics: Average GPA and DAT Scores


Temple School of Dentistry admits a large and diverse group of 141 dental students annually. Despite receiving thousands of applications, only a fraction can be accepted.


When deciding whether you should apply to Temple, you can better gauge your competitiveness by comparing your stats to the average stats of previously accepted applicants. Compared to national averages for accepted applicants, which is a 3.69 overall GPA and a 3.63 science GPA, Temple has slightly lower averages, with an average overall GPA of 3.59 and an average science GPA of 3.52 among accepted students.

For DAT scores, the national averages for accepted applicants are 21 Academic Average, 21 Total Science, and 20 PAT. By comparison, Temples' accepted student averages are slightly higher: 20.3 Academic Average, 21.1 Total Science, and 20.2 PAT.


Temple University School of Dentistry does not have a minimum DAT score requirement. Additionally, DAT scores more than two years old at the time of application will not be accepted.


Required Prerequisites for Temple University School of Dentistry


Like many dental schools, Temple has specific prerequisite coursework and experience requirements that applicants must complete before matriculating.

Unlike many dental schools, Temple does not require any shadowing prior to applying, although it is recommended.


Temple Course Requirements:

• 8 credits of General Biology

• 8 credits of General Chemistry

• 8 credits of Organic Chemistry

• 8 credits of Physics

• 6 credits of a English/Writing intensive coursework


Temple University School of Dentistry allows for six credits of prerequisite coursework to be taken at a community college, while the remaining prerequisite courses must be taken at a 4-year university. Temple does accept Advanced Placement (AP) credits for prerequisite coursework. Laboratory components are required for all prerequisite courses except English/Writing intensive coursework.


In regards to letters of recommendations, Temple requires a minimum of two letters of recommendation from science professors and applicants can submit an optional letter of recommendation from a dentist. Applicants may substitute a committee letter in place of the science professor letters.


Before matriculating, students must undergo a criminal background check.

Temple University School of Dentistry received a total of 2,783 applications this past cycle. As the chart suggests, Temple does give preference to in-state applicants, but they also accept a large number of both out-of-state and international applicants every year, so don't be scared to apply.


Tuition and Costs at Temple University School of Dentistry


When considering dental school, the cost of attendance is a major factor. Temple's total cost of attendance is cheaper for in-state students than it is for out-of-state students.

Temple University School of Dentistry tuition for in-state students is $73,334 each year for all four years, while the tuition for out-of-state students is $84,420 each year for all four years.
